Summer’s Blooms

I am so thrilled finally to be able to have the time and energy to write as my brain is now my own thanks to an impacted tooth being born in the dentist’s chair last Tuesday.

I felt like I was going crazy in that I seemed unable to have my normally sharp wit & scintillating humor (at least according to my beloved husband) to be able to provide perfect parental perspective to our two beautiful children.

Now that I can reflect on this past month’s maelstrom of activities, planning & decisions since returning from our beautiful trip in my in-laws, I am so pleased to see so many changes we had hoped for to be beginning to show bloom.

For example, my eldest (dolphin-dancer), has never met a veggie he didn’t like – unless it was in his imagination and then he loves them all.  So when we learned in parenting class from the Parenting Kids God’s Way that it is possible for children to be choice – addicted, we decided to experiment and refocus and lure and tantalize our children with the beauty of orange carrots, brilliant red peppers, gorgeous green peas & fun yellow cucumbers.  We simply stated that since we were given the care and entrusted to train  their hearts and their bodies that we would choose what they ate and they had the privilege of eating it thankfully.  That until their hearts and minds could handle the myriad of choices and the morality of choosing what is good for you even if it isn’t what your mind desires, the choices would be ours=)  I was pleased and amazed that a few days into it, dolphin-dancer, was actually finishing veggies with no complaining.  Additionally, my youngest (still a baby in my heart) heart-on-sleeve, was begging me for more veggies! What a bumper crop of gorgeous thankfulness in full bloom.

Now, the children expect and are so unsuprised at the presence of veggies on their plates, I have now been cooking for a couple of weeks dinners where everyone eats the same food.  I have been promoted from short order cook of 4 guests to eatery owner!

Even tonight, we had homemade lasagna using fresh basil and parsley from our mini-garden.  Now, what kind of seed can I find at Target to plant a seed of courage in my little ones.  Especially to grow enough courage to always tell the truth.

My prayer for my kinder-garden is for a full bloom of truth, with a side bouquet of trust and fearlessness.  I had better get to work pulling weeds gently if I want these flowers to be ready by fall.  I just love kinder-gardening – best kind of job of all!

Now, what do dolphin-dancer & heart-on-sleeve need for tomorrow’s gardening?
